Lifestyle Medicine is the fastest growing field of medicine. It differentiates from more mainstream approaches to healthcare by highlighting the use of non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive modalities to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic disease.

St. John’s Health Lifestyle Medicine program grew from its nationally recognized worksite wellness program that has been providing year-round wellness programming for over 1,400 Teton County employees. Through implementing this population-based programming, the demand for individualized wellness services became clear.
You can prevent and manage many chronic, lifestyle related conditions by improving the everyday actions you take and choices you make about exercise, sleep, stress, use of harmful substances, social connections, and nutrition. Clinical lifestyle medicine is an individualized program that provides research-based health education, skill building, and health coaching to support long-term change. The program is staffed with board certified lifestyle medicine professionals in the areas of physical therapy, nursing, nutrition, and health coaching. Diagnoses that are appropriate for clinical lifestyle medicine include heart disease, high blood pressure, COPD, diabetes, and many more. A referral from your primary care provider or specialist is needed to participate in the program. Clinical lifestyle medicine services are billed to your insurance provider. One-on-one wellness coaching helps clients reach optimal health and well-being. Our coaches guide clients in developing and achieving personal goals through facilitating behavior changes that lead to sustainable, healthy lifestyles.
Tobacco cessation counseling sessions follow evidence-based protocol and utilize free nicotine replacement therapies offered by statewide quit programs. Tobacco Cessation counseling is provided by a Mayo Clinic trained tobacco cessation specialist.
Stanford’s Chronic Disease Self-Management (CDSM) program is a six-week group program offered in either English or Spanish. Instructed by Stanford certified CDSM leaders, this program focuses on building self-efficacy skills and is appropriate for anyone with a chronic condition.
Nutrition is one of the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine and education around eating healthfully is integral to our program. Lifestyle Medicine clients have the opportunity to work individually with Registered Dieticians to set and accomplish their goals around health, disease reversal and weight loss.
Nearly 10% of the United States population has been diagnosed with diabetes. St. John’s Diabetes and Nutrition Program works closely with the clients of the Lifestyle Medicine Program who are at risk for Diabetes. The approach is threefold - to prevent, treat and, when appropriate, reverse Type 2 Diabetes.
Ergonomics is the science of designing the work environment to fit the worker. Our professional ergonomists assess and modify the workspace to maximize efficiency, reduce injury potential and improve productivity.
The Lifestyle Medicine program at St. John’s Health operates as a cash pay subscription service with an initial intake with an American College of Lifestyle Medicine board certified RN.
