Every woman has a different idea of what her labor will be like. St. John’s Health is here to accommodate your desires by offering medicated and unmedicated deliveries. This is a very personal experience, and we want your labor to be both as safe and comfortable as possible. Ask your doctor about the pros and cons of both types of delivery, and let us know which route you would prefer.
If you wish to have pain medication during delivery, anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are available 24 hours a day to provide relief. Your nurse and anesthesia provider will take the time to answer your questions and address your concerns, to ensure that you understand your options and are comfortable with your decisions. We offer a variety of pain control options, including IV pain medication and epidural anesthesia and encourage you to discuss these options with your doctor or midwife prior to delivery.
If you are planning on an unmedicated birth, your nurse and care provider will be by your side with unwavering support through the entire process. St. John's is proud to offer a hydrotherapy tub, private in-room showers, aromatherapy and an experienced nursing staff trained in effective relaxation techniques to assist in natural labor. Because every birth is highly personalized and individualized, we strive to provide you with the experience you desire—recognizing that the safety of you and your baby is always the number one priority. If you have a birth plan, please discuss it with your care provider and review it with your nurse upon arrival.
