St. John’s Health (SJH) and Gros Ventre OB/GYN (GVOG) are pleased to announce that Timothy Bussert, MD, will be joining the SJH obstetrics and gynecology care team in January. Following the closure of two independent Jackson-based OB/GYN practices in 2023, SJH recruited Dr. Bussert in collaboration with GVOG, an independent women’s healthcare practice in Jackson that has served western Wyoming and eastern Idaho for more than 25 years.
"While the trend around the country is to close labor and delivery units due to costs and the national shortage of providers, SJH and GVOG remain fully committed to keeping these essential services open and available for women in the region," said SJH CEO Jeff Sollis. With the addition of Dr. Bussert, St. John’s Health is also now able to offer the full complement of minimally invasive gynecological surgical options, from vaginal and laparoscopic approaches to robotic surgery.
Dr. Bussert will join SJH from Syracuse, NY, where he practices at University OB/GYN Associates and serves as Medical Director of the Women’s Health Services Clinic at Upstate Health Care Center. He received his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he also completed his medical residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His interests and hobbies include golf, skiing, piano, and soccer. He will be relocating to the area with his partner, Maryellen, who will join Teton Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation as a speech language pathologist.
In addition to recruiting Dr. Bussert, the SJH-GVOG collaboration includes ongoing recruitment for a second permanent obstetrician/gynecologist to fully meet the community's need for prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. In the interim, SJH continues to provide and financially support ongoing OB/GYN nighttime and weekend call coverage. According to Sollis, St. John's Health is able to support this service because it is a locally-led independent health system and, therefore, able to prioritize its resources to meet the needs of Teton County and the surrounding areas.
“The entire SJH provider care team has come together during the last 18 months to provide additional women’s services, referring those who required specialized OB/GYN care to GVOG,” Sollis said. “These efforts by numerous dedicated providers have further bolstered women’s care in this community.”
Dr. Bussert will be seeing patients in his outpatient clinic at Gros Ventre OB/GYN, located at 555 E. Broadway Suite #108 in the SJH Professional Office Building. Patients can schedule appointments by calling (307) 734-1005.
