Most women find that getting their regular mammogram brings peace of mind. The care and proficiency of the mammography technician is key to a positive patient experience. Additionally, for most women having a breast screening, the mammographer will be the only health care professional they encounter.
Mammographers are on the front lines of patient care, welcoming patients, address their anxieties and fears, and ultimately provide a positive experience. From screening positioning to communication to documentation, they can represent the difference between a caught or missed cancer. The relationship mammographer’s build with their patients is often what keeps patients coming back for regular exams. For this, mammographers are the unsung heroes of breast cancer prevention.
Doubling down in 2022
With generous support from the St. John’s Health Foundation and community donors, St. John’s Health is adding a second Hologic 3D mammography system to expand capacity for breast health screening. Hologic’s 3D system detects more invasive cancers, reduces false positives, and is FDA approved as superior compared to conventional 2D mammography for all women, including those with dense breasts. The new system will be in use for patient appointments by March 2022.
