New sleep apnea treatment subject of upcoming virtual health talk

Experts at St. John’s Health will discuss a new sleep apnea treatment, called Inspire, during a Virtual Community Health Talk on Wednesday, April 7 at 6 pm.

Signs of sleep apnea include snoring and gasping while sleeping as well as falling asleep during the day. This condition, in which a person stops breathing while sleeping because of a blocked airway, has traditionally been treated with a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine.

People who cannot tolerate this machine may find relief through Inspire, a small device that stimulates the upper airway to facilitate breathing during sleep.

“This new treatment has high patient satisfaction rates, creating a real game changer for people with sleep apnea,” said St. John’s ear, nose, throat specialist Martin Trott, MD, the surgeon who implants the device.
