St. John’s Cancer Care offers series of nutrition talks

St. John’s Health is offering virtual health talks for people interested in learning how what they eat can prevent cancer. The three-part series begins on Thursday, December 10, with “The New American Plate and How to Dish Your Plate to Fight Cancer,” presented from noon to 12:30 pm.

“This series is part of our Cancer Survivorship Program, and we encourage everyone to attend,” said Lynnette Gaertner, MSW, social worker at St. John’s Cancer Care. “There will be relevant information for the general public, people undergoing cancer treatment, and cancer survivors. Each session will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.”

Presented by registered dietitians Sarah Peterson, RDN, LD, and Michelle Robertson, RDN, LD, the series will explore recommendations by the American Institute for Cancer Research and cover practical ways to put them into action.

Future presentations are “The Benefits of Whole Grains and Dietary Fiber” on Thursday, January 7, and “What is Red and Processed Meat and How Much is Safe to Eat?” on Thursday, January 28. Presentations take place via Zoom from noon to 12:30 pm.

To register, call St. John’s Cancer Care at 307.739.6190 and receive a complimentary cookbook and handouts on cancer-fighting foods and recipes.

The Cancer Survivorship Program is funded through the St. John’s Health Foundation. For more information, go to www.stjohns.health/cancercare
