Joint replacement surgeon Dr. Gus Goetz will discuss how robotics has improved joint replacement surgery on Wednesday, July 31, 5:30-7:00 pm at the Wort Hotel. People with joint pain, arthritis, and an interest in technology are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
The robotic system at St. John’s Medical Center includes three different robotic arms to assist in total hip and total and partial knee replacement surgeries.
“With robotic-assisted surgery, each patient receives a highly personalized experience, based on their specific diagnosis and anatomy,” said Dr. Goetz. “We now offer a new level of precision that wasn’t previously available. Using virtual 3D modeling, I can create each patient’s surgical plan before I even enter the operating room.”
The surgical plan includes implant size, orientation, and alignment based on each patient’s unique anatomy. During surgery, the surgeon can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute that plan.
“Our Peak Joint Replacement program has consistently achieved top ratings compared to the rest of the nation for patient satisfaction, length of stay, and physical therapy results,” said Jaime Jackson, orthopedic program manager. “With this transformative technology, we expect outcomes to be even better.”
The robotic system was made possible by support from the St. John’s Hospital Foundation.
