You can reduce your risk for dementia by as much as 50% by improving your life choices. St. John’s Cognitive Health is offering a new intensive program to teach you specific techniques to do so. Highlights include brain training with the evidence-based Brain HQ program, cooking lessons with Dr. Annie Fenn, and exercise classes.
According to Dr. Martha Stearn, the internal medicine specialist who founded St. John’s Cognitive Health and developed the program, “We have seen improvement in scores through the customized computer-based brain training software. Education and commitment are key, and Brain Works can set you on the right path with the proper tools.”
St. John’s Cognitive Health has offered several Brain Works programs in the past, with 100% of the participants enthusiastically endorsing the program. While past programs have taken place over the course of seven weeks, the new program is offered in one week to better fit people’s schedules.
The intensive program will be held October 16–22. Classes meet Monday through Friday, 8-10 am and 5:30-7 pm, Saturday 9 am–noon, and Sunday 10 am–noon. The program features the following topics: movement, balance, and mindfulness classes; the value of good nutrition (with an emphasis on the Mediterranean diet); cooking classes with Dr. Annie Fenn culminating in a meal; a computer-based brain training program to strengthen cognitive weaknesses and enhance strengths; stress reduction techniques (including yoga); the importance of sleep; and other relevant subjects.
The fee for the program is $300 per person. When two people enroll together, each will receive a $50 discount.
