Outpatient Behavioral Health at St. John's Health

Treatment for Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse & More

Behavioral health issues affect millions of people every year and too often they go undiagnosed because people do not realize their condition can benefit from medical assistance. Depression and anxiety are something no one should have to struggle with on a daily basis. At St. John’s Health, we provide resources to patients and families dealing with mental and behavioral health concerns. We believe in the value of personalized care that is tailored to the specific needs of each and every patient.

Defining Mental Disorders

Diagnosing mental and behavioral disorders requires an extremely skilled medical eye. No physician wants to diagnose a patient with a medical condition when they are experiencing a normal, temporary bout of depression or anxiety. Unfortunately, many patients stop seeing the doctor about their mental health concerns after they have been told not to worry about them. It is important that you emphasize the intensity of your condition and how long it has been going on for. Doctors need to know that your problem is chronic and reoccurring in order to make an accurate diagnosis.

Mental conditions that can benefit from medical treatment include:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • Chemical dependency
  • Substance abuse and addiction
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Autism and other behavioral disorders

Ensuring Access to Mental Health in Jackson

Access to quality behavioral health care is vital for our community, yet the high cost of providing psychiatry and counseling services remains a challenge. Thanks to the generosity of Alison and Lewis Lee, through their family foundation, The Childress Foundation, St. John’s Health Foundation has established a Behavioral Health Endowment to help offset these costs. A major gift from Connie Kemmerer and the Kemmerer Foundation has further strengthened this initiative, reinforcing a shared commitment to expanding mental health services at St. John’s Health.
